Dental office needed to update old website and ineffective logo

To get a feel of what their preferences were, I started with a questionnaire and mood board. What came out of the discovery process was a desire to attract young families and show how they continue to adopt the latest technology in their dental practice. Also they wanted patients to feel calm and comfortable. They adopted the slogan "Dentistry with a Heart" which informed the eventual logo design.
I created this mood board after reviewing their theme preferences from our discovery process. They wished to convey feelings of trust, comfort, and excitement in their website, which is also how they want patients to feel when they enter the dental office. This moodboard helped me to come up with a color scheme.
The moodboard influenced the style guide. There was a lot of back and forth with the client before we settled on a color scheme. Also the original colors actually had to be tweaked a bit to result in accessible color-safe colors for those with limited vision issues. In the end, the client was happy with the contrast of the hot pink with the other cool and calm colors.
Logo design process
Previous logo design... client described it as "scary looking" with the sharp tools. Also they wanted something fresh and original, not trite like other dental offices simply using a big tooth as their logo.
After the client settled on "Dentistry with a Heart" for their tagline, I started looking for a way to integrate a heart into the logo. I found with this rough sketch that a heart was created on the inside with the two opposing curvy shapes. I realized in an abstract way that the two shapes could be the patient and dentist facing each other.
After I refined the two shapes a bit, I realized I could achieve one of my original objectives in making the letters "M" and "C" appear in the logo (for Michael Chopyk), while also forming a heart in the negative space in the inside.
Solution
The dental office achieved their primary objectives of attracting young families and identifying as a boutique dental office "with heart". In addition, they were able to show that Dr. Chopyk is up on the latest technology. To impress potential new patients, all of his many "best of" logos are on the home page.
They are utilizing the WordPress site to the max with the use of an appointment setting app, patient portal, a link to insurance information, and posting their emergency 24 hour hotline. These optional features alleviate some of the administrative tasks which helps to run the office more efficiently.
